Dr Jennifer Smith
Author
Jennifer Smith holds a Graduate Diploma in Counselling, an Honours degree in Linguistics, a Masters degree in Education and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of New South Wales.
She has had extensive experience as a university lecturer to undergraduate and postgraduate students in the schools of psychology and education, at the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Sydney, and the Australian College of Applied Psychology where she continues to teach the subject, educational and developmental psychology, to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Until recently, Jennifer worked with refugee children at a public school in Sydney’s Western suburbs.
She was a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a member of the Colleges of Educational Psychology and Counselling Psychology, a member of the Australasian Sleep Association and a member of their Paediatric Special Interest Group.
Jennifer was a registered classroom teacher, Special Education teacher and school counsellor. She is a seasoned professional with over forty years of experience in literacy acquisition. As such, she has enabled thousands of young people in elementary and high schools to become literate.
She has been interviewed by presenters on ABC radio and she is published in the Journal of Behavioral Education and a variety of hardcopy and online newspapers such as KidsInfo, Mamamia and Essential Kids. She was also a regular contributor to Early Learning Review and Learning Review.
Jennifer wrote and published the very positively reviewed book But I’m Not Tired! The nature of sleep and how to nurture it in children and teenagers, in the hope that the current generation of learners will not be too exhausted to acquire literacy skills.
For many years she has used her wide experience and knowledge to provide services to teachers, parents and students in universities and schools and in her private practice. The app, Learn to Read George Canine, is a culmination of her vast experience and the fulfillment of a longstanding dream.
